NCHAC election turns violent, three person hospitalized

Haflong, Dec 26: The election environment in the Semkhor constituency of NC Hill Autonomous Council in Dima Hasao district turned out to be violent as three workers of an independent candidate were allegedly attacked by the workers of opponent candidate on Monday evening.
The injured persons were Raiden Haflongbar, Prokas Phonglo and Pulonto Phonglo. According to them, supporters of BJP candidate Ranu Langthasa (present NCHAC chairperson) attacked them with a machete and also ransacked their vehicles and even trashed the drivers.
They have been brought to Maibang PHC and are receiving treatment and a police complaint was lodge with Maibang police station in connection with the incident.
In a separate incident some miscreant tried to burn INC’s Maibang Block Congress Committee office in a wee hour at around 2.30 am on Tuesday.
The miscreant burnt the office wooden door, but could not do further damage. Maibang BCC G.S Probon Langthasa have lodged a police complaint at Maibang police station for necessary action. In both Maibang East and West constituencies BJP have already win the poll uncontested.
93 candidates from BJP, INC, TMC, AAP and independent are in fray for the 13th NCHAC election slated on 8th January, 2024. A total of 1,41,124 voters are expected to casts their votes out of which 70485 are male and 70639 are female. In a total of 280 polling stations across Dima Hasao district 27 are mark very sensitive, 100 sensitive and the rest are comprehensively safe.
