Imphal, Dec 28: Fresh clashes erupted this morning after unidentified assailants hiding in a jungle fired at security forces in Molnoi, a region in Manipur plagued by ethnic violence. According to reports, Meitei women groups allegedly obstructed reinforcements rushed to the conflict zone.
The attacked took place at around 6 am when assailants, concealed in a jungle, started firing at the security forces. Local who wished to remain anonymous stated that gunfight continued in Molnoi while the reinforcement movements were being allegedly blocked by Meira Paibis. The official also mentioned that the identity of the attackers remains unclear.
As of 9:30 am, neither the police nor central forces had officially confirmed any casualties. This resurgence of violence comes after a week-long lull, with the previous outbreak occurring on August 29 and August 31. During those clashes between tribal Kukis and the predominant Meiteis, at least eight individuals lost their lives, and over two dozen, including three personnel from the India Reserve Battalion, were wounded.
